As a parent I know how stressful it can be when you receive a text from the school reception that tomorrow is 'Children in Need' or 'Red Nose Day'. You start rushing around, asking all the other last minute parents what they have done so that their child wont go in to school looking like a complete wolly! What I have come to realise though is whatever the occasion, ribbon is the answer! Here at calico Laine we have a huge selection of Berisfords Ribbons which come in satin, grosgrain, sheer elegance, velvet and super sheer, all of which can be used in a number of different ways. It all just depends how creative and imaginative you are feeling!  Last year I was thrown when I received a last minute message from my daughters school reminding me it was Red Nose Day the next day, luckily I work in a fabric shop and used my initiative - I bought 10 metres of our red velvet Berisfords Ribbon and a bottle of our super handy high tack no sew fabric glue. Ribbons are a very popular item in dressmaking, and they are often used for creating decorative trims on garments and can be woven into the fabric of garments such as skirts and dresses. Other than being used decoratively on your garments all ribbons can be used as practical additions to your clothing and can be used to tie things or as a waistband. When I got home I pulled out their clean uniforms and glued the ribbon around the bottom of their school skirts, around the sleeves of their school shirts and glued a small piece across their school shirts pockets. When I finished glueing it all in the desired spots of their uniform I was left with a fair amount of ribbon and decided that I could also use the Berisfords Ribbon as temporary shoe laces for the day! Obviously I over estimated the amount I needed by quite a lot but I'd rather have too much than not enough and after jazzing up their uniforms I was able to use the scraps to tie in the pig tails! You can buy all of our Berisfords Ribbons Online in a variety of colours and designs to add stunning finishing touches and an element of personality to many of your projects. So next time the school rings, texts or emails at the last minute, get yourselves down and post your creative ideas on our Facebook page!
