Although it may seem a bit early to be thinking of Christmas since we haven't even had Halloween yet, there are only 9 weeks left till the big day and that means the holiday season will soon be upon us. Here at Calico Laine we have been discussing our christmas work night out and what outfits we might be wearing. Here we are spoilt for choice but I think I may go with my favourite, chiffon Dressmaking Fabric, to make my outfit. Chiffon, from the French word for cloth, is a lightweight Dressmaking Fabric that is woven to make a fine mesh which creates its see through appearance. As it is lightweight it can be used as an overlay over other fabrics or on its own layered up to create more depth of colour. Even though it is Christmas and will probably be cold on our night out, the chiffon can still be worn over a slightly warmer fabric such as microfibre while still retaining the appearance of a floaty an elegant Dressmaking Fabric. To give the chiffon more of a glitzy look for a night out, embellishments can be sewn onto it to create a pattern or to accent part of the dress. Small seeds beads or Swarovski crystals could be sewn around the neckline or the hem of the dress or even on the bottom of sleeves if I was to create some long length chiffon sleeves. Any embellishments that are used would need to be lightweight as the chiffon Dressmaking Fabric will not take anything too heavy. What fabrics are you using to create your Christmas party outfits?
