Last night I attended my first Christmas event of the year and even though it is only November I am now feeling fairly festive. I have even been listening to some Christmas songs in my craft room! Most years, I host the Christmas holidays for my family and I love to decorate the house to make it feel extra special. At Calico Laine we have a large selection of beautiful Christmas Fabric with fabulous prints including poinsettia, holly, snowmen, robins and snowflakes which can be used to make interior decorations which will give your home that festive feeling. One of my favourite things to make from Christmas Fabrics is a tablecloth for the dining table. It may be a simple item but can be really effective and as I do not have a tablecloth on the table the rest of the year it makes it feel extra special when I have one for the Christmas dinner table. I am a fan of traditional decorations on my tree and this is the same throughout my selection of decorations around the home including any fabric decoration. One of my favourite Christmas Fabric prints this year is the green noel flower Christmas fabric which has a green background with stand out red poinsettias on it. This would look great with some plain cotton fabric napkins and a poinsettia plant in the centre of the table to finish it off. The pros to making your own table cloth is that you can make it to the specific size of your table so that it will fit perfectly and it is so simple to make. All that needs to be done is a simple hem around each size. If you do not even feel like sewing, you can hem it with hemming tape and this makes it even easier to make! As my family have never done the whole traditional stocking idea I have not made any stocking myself however the Christmas Fabrics at Calico Laine are ideal for this. Red cotton fabric with a gold snowflake print would be great to use as the base and a white faux fur trim could be used for the top of the stocking. Instead of making stockings for my home, this year I may make some cushions to adorn my sofa. These can be made in the traditional square shape but I think it may be nice to make a robin shaped on using the robin print Christmas Fabric and then it can be stuffed with toy stuffing rather than a cushion pad. I could also make a tree shaped one or snowflake one if I am feeling particularly creative. Have you ever made anything like this for Christmas? If you have, we would love to see your creations on our social media pages.
