It's a cold winter's day today up on the Wirral and as I write this it's blowing a gale and raining cats and dogs! With this awful weather in mind it brings me onto the topic of today's blog and that is dressmaking for the cold weather! Below I am going to talk about three of my favourite fabrics to use when the weather is cold. These include: [caption id="attachment_5963" align="alignleft" width="150"]Double Knit Jersey in Dark Navy Beautiful quality double knit jersey at Calico[/caption] Double Knit Jersey: This is a beautiful quality heavy jersey that is perfect for keeping out the cold. It is 150cm wide and has an excellent weight and body to it. There are various colours available in this jersey but I always seem to end up going back to black! Fleece Fabrics: Although not strictly a dress fabric, I think we need to mention this today as it really is cold! One of the great things I love about fleece is just how versatile it is. In the past, I have made jackets, coats onesies and throws with it. It really does keep you well wrapped up and warm and it also washes and wears extremely well. [caption id="attachment_5967" align="alignright" width="150"]Melton Fabrics at Calico Laine Melton fabrics at Calico Laine.[/caption] Melton Fabrics: I really like the new range of Meltons that came in with us late last month. They are absolutely stunning and a real step up in quality from some of the melton fabrics we have seen in the past. The two main things I love about this cloth is the range of colours and also the weight, it truly is a beautiful cloth. One thing we often find here at Calico Laine with all of our dress fabrics is that customers come in and try one colour or order one colour of a fabric and the following week order or purchase more of the same fabric just in a different colour! This can mean only one thing? That they have been happy with their purchase and are making more dress/clothes with our fabrics. This is always a good sign and and we always get good feedback. The three fabrics I have mentioned above are really lovely fabrics. If you have not used them as yet, please do give them a try, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. If you do use them or if you have used any of our fabrics then please do share your creations with us on our Facebook and Twitter pages, Until next time and thanks for reading, Calico Laine
