So after constantly reminding me about how I’d promised them that I would do ‘knitting’ with them, Saturday was Craft day for me and my twin nieces (I shall refer to them as Twin E and Twin P) I’ll be honest and say that I was not looking forward to this as I’m a bit of a control freak and I like things to be done in a specific order especially when it comes to Crafts. So after 20 minutes of flinging my stash of my fabric, buttons and Crafting items all over the living room floor, the girls decided on what fabric, buttons and style of cushion they would like to make! [caption id="attachment_6471" align="aligncenter" width="225"]3 Working away on her sewing machine![/caption] Twin E was very organised and was very adamant where her bows and buttons were to go on her cushion and even wanted to draw around the template for the shape of cushion. Whereas Twin P who is normally very logical to a lesser approach to Craft and seemed to just make it up as she was going along choosing precut felt for her shape. They took very quickly to sewing buttons on and once this was done, I then showed them how the sewing machine works, cue eyes looking everywhere but at the actual machine, kids eh!!!? They wanted to do Crafts with Auntie Gemma then they will learn how a machine works! Once they’d completed this they turned the cushions the right way round and their faces of pride and surprise (including mine) that they began to look like actual cushions was adorable! Craft day was actually going to be productive phew!! They stuffed their cushions by themselves and I then showed them how to do a blanket stitch to sew up the gap at the base, this was not as neat as I had hoped but then I kept having to tell myself they are ONLY 7 years old and they had done brilliantly! Excited by the excellent end result of their cushions they then wanted to make a little birthday gift each for their baby cushions first birthday…. Yeay I’ve got them loving Crafts. However they got bored and distracted half way through the hand sewing of the baby’s name on to the front of their cushions, leaving me and their mum to complete them (trying to make it look like 7 year olds have sewn them, easy for their mum but difficult for me being the Crafty expert I am) they stuffed them themselves and stitched the gap up at the bottom, and not doubt will be taking ALL the credit for making them. And hopefully we will have more Craft days….. just not too soon! Crafts is a great way to keep children occupied during the school holidays, find all the Crafts products you will need to get you started online and in store! Until next time! Calico Laine
