At this time of the year, BBC One and ITV are usually in battle for viewers with their big budget programmes, Strictly Come Dancing and X Factor respectively. As much as I enjoy a good singing competition, this year I have been hooked on Strictly. As well as watching the celebrities trying their hand at a Jive or American Smooth, I tune in to see what fabulous costumes are being worn by the dancers and what outfit, host Tess Daly, is sporting. The Fabrics used are usually draped in sparkles and crystals and what lady can resist a bit of sparkle? [caption id="attachment_5908" align="aligncenter" width="300"]Dance Costume Fabrics Ola wearing a satin and chiffon dress[/caption]   One of my favourite dances this week was by Ashley and Ola who performed a traditional waltz. Ola wore a gorgeous pale pink dress which looked like it had been made of a lightweight satin fabric with a chiffon fabric underskirt. The top of the dress was encrusted with Swarovski crystals and finished with diamante straps. To recreate this look for your own ballroom gown, our pale pink Economy Satin Fabric would be perfect. As it is a lightweight fabric it would drape well and would have good movement when you are dancing. For underneath the dress, our pale pink Chiffon Fabric would be ideal as this is also lightweight and could be layered to give a fuller look to the skirt. Has anybody ever made their own dance costume? If you have, why not share your creation on our Facebook or Twitter page. We would love to see fabrics and designs you have used. Until next time, Calico Laine
