Now that summer is upon us festival season is only around the corner which leads us to a very important subject, what to wear. Festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival, Creamfields or Green Man are the perfect time to show off some originality with your clothing and stand out from the crowd. Each year magazine companies fill their pages and websites with articles and blogs featuring the ultimate festival looks. It is often garments made from dress fabrics such as suede, denim and lightweight cotton blends that come top of the list. These items are high fashion and often that means a high price tag. With a little bit of patience and creativity Calico Laine is here to offer some advice on what fabrics to use to create your own summer festival collection. A popular print for Dress Fabrics has always been the floral print. A Daisy print has always been synonymous with the bohemian music festival and here at Calico Laine we have a nice collection to choose from. A lightweight chambray in pale pink with a white large daisy print is a great fabric to use for simple summer dress or lightweight top. If pale pink isn't your colour we also have cotton poplins in turquoise, royal and lime green with a large daisy print and very small polka dots. If you prefer plain block colours then our linen fabric comes in a wide variety of beautiful shades for you to chose from. Our linen fabric is 146cm wide, made from 100% polyester, is machine washable at 40 degrees and does not crease easily. Jersey fabrics are slightly more difficult to work with but with a bit of patience they can be great for summer festival dresses. Here at Calico Laine we have a large range of different coloured lycra jersey. Our lycra jersey is 150 cm wide, 97% polyester and 3% spandex. As it is two way stretch it can be a very flattering dress fabric. Butterick B6206 is a pattern which has 3 styles of long length dresses suitable for this material. Mcalls M6559 has varied lengths of the same style of dress with a throw over to match. Faux suede and denim fabric are both popular at the moment for the A line button up skirt. We have several different weights and shades of blue and black denim fabric ranging from 4oz to 14oz. Our Faux suede comes in 2 different weights and a larger range of colours including a rich terracota, camel and chocolate. Websites such as pinterest and youtube often have tutorials guiding how to make this style of skirt. If you are better at following a pattern Mcalls (M7392) skirt A is the same style. All of the patterns mentioned are available in sizes 6-14 or 14-22.
