If you are looking for a new sewing project to work on, you might be pondering over what Dressmaking Fabrics will be right for the job. Lately I have been working on making a few garments for the approaching summertime, and in today's blog I'll be talking about the selections I have made from Calico Laine's huge range of Dressmaking Fabrics available both in our stores and online. [caption id="attachment_9047" align="alignleft" width="150"]Our cotton jersey fabrics are perfect for simple summer garments. It is a medium weight jersey with a two way stretch, and I have used it for making a few skirts and skater dresses to wear on warmer days when I don't want to be wearing jeans. We have a good range of colours to choose from and if we don't have the shade you want available, fear not - because it is 100% cotton, I have dyed a few metres of our white cotton jersey to other colours I have wanted using our Dylon Fabric Dye (available in both machine dye and hand dye varieties). Jardin Prints and Cotton Spandex Prints - These beautiful Dressmaking Fabrics are available in a whole host of different prints and look fantastic both on the roll and when made up. A lot of our customers have chosen these for use in formal garments, perfect for attending garden parties and even events such as weddings and birthdays. These fabrics contain a little bit of a stretch as well due to the small amount of spandex in the composition, which will ensure an easier fit for you. Due to them being poplins they are lightweight fabrics, but they still contain the same stretch that features in our previously mentioned jardin prints and cotton spandex prints. Cotton Prints - If you are looking for Dressmaking Fabrics that would be a good choice for simple sun dresses, our cotton prints are always popular amongst our customers for this purpose. There are so many prints available to choose from, including lots of floral prints from the simple to the bold, and we also have a lovely range of prints designed especially for children if you are looking to make clothing for your children or grandchildren. Do you have any favourite Dressmaking Fabrics to use for summer garments? Have you used any of the fabrics we have mentioned in your own sewing projects? Take a photo and upload it to our Facebook page - we love to see what our customers come up with!
