This week, the monotony of January was broken up and sprinkled with a little bit of glamour with the National TV Awards taking place on Wednesday night at London's 02. The first event this awards season saw the best loved stars of the small screen dressed to impress and setting the standard as we approach the Oscars next month. Watching the red carpet is the perfect opportunity for a sneak preview of what is up an coming in the world of fashion and Dressmaking Fabrics; where celebrities lead, the high street will inevitably follow. One celebrity who set tongues wagging for all of the right reasons this year was Holly Willoughby; looking stunning in a close fitting, white ball gown Holly showcased a timeless, classic design which would not be out of place on the Academy Awards red carpet. This simple design is perfect for any formal event and even for a low key bridal gown and can be recreated using a number of Dressmaking Fabrics such as crepe. Popular for it's stunning drape and beautiful matte like appearance, crepe is the ideal choice for special occasion wear and is particularly flattering for women of all shapes and sizes with a heavy weight which will highlight your curves and flatter any problem areas. Microfibre Dressmaking Fabric would be a fantastic alternative to crepe for creating Holly's beautiful gown; popular for creating evening wear and contemporary bridal gowns microfibre is favoured in the manufacture of ladies clothing as it is not a clingy fabric yet  falls and drapes beautifully. Irish television star Vogue Williams was highly praised by the press and fashion publications for her stunning gown, designed by a relatively unknown fashion graduate from Vogue's home town. Crafted from a beautiful satin Dressmaking Fabric with contrasting satin lining and featuring an exquisite waterfall skirt this elegant creation was perhaps one of the best outfits on the red carpet. Vogue set the design off to perfect with her crimson shoes and minimal accessories. Duchess satin Dressmaking Fabric is one of the most elegant and lustrous Dressmaking Fabrics in our collection and is ideal for recreating this classic gown. Featuring a firm but soft to handle surface, duchess satin Dressmaking Fabric features a wonderful body and weight and is ideal for a wide range of formal dressmaking projects particularly evening gowns, bridesmaid dresses and bridal gowns. TV presenter Emma Willis is well known for her quirky sense of style and has long been a fan of bold, eye catching prints on the red carpet and her beautiful NTA gown by Stella McCartney was no different. Pregnant with her third child, Emma showed how to do red carpet maternity style with this elegant, printed number crafted from a midnight blue duchess satin Dressmaking Fabric and featuring a embroidered botanical design, low square neckline and fitted waist. Paired with a simple black stiletto pump her choice of red carpet gown could not have been more perfect for an expectant mum. Here at Calico Laine, we are looking forward to seeing the fashion triumphs and disasters gracing red carpets from here to Hollywood for the remainder of awards season and will no doubt be pulling out our sewing machines and Dressmaking Fabrics to replicate our favourite gowns.
