As the days grow a little longer after the winter, we are seeing our first customers who are seeking out the perfect Dressmaking Fabrics for their wedding day coming to visit us in store. Here at Calico Laine, we stock plenty of items that would be a great choice for such an occasion, and in today's blog we'll be talking about a few of our suggestions that are always popular among brides-to-be and their army of helpers! Duchess Satin – These gorgeous Dressmaking Fabrics are definitely our top choice for bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses, and they are customer favourites all year round. We have so many different colours available in our stock to choose from, from classic bridal colours such as white, ivory and cream to the more adventurous such as sunflower yellow, cerise and turquoise. It has a stunning matte finish and looks fantastic when made up. Chiffon - We stock several different kinds of chiffon available in all sorts of colours. Chiffon is a beautiful fabric and is a fantastic choice for using as an overlay on a dress, skirt or even a bolero jacket. Many of the shades available from us compliment colours available in our other fabrics to guarantee you have a complete, tied together look. Satin Back Dupion – This lovely fabric is reversible and features an interesting texture due to the intentional slubs in the weave. We have been complimented on our colour range by customers who have been pleasantly surprised to find more unusual colours such as peach, duck egg and cinnamon available from us, as well as traditional bridal colours such as white, ivory and cream. Satin Back Crepe – Although this is one of our more lightweight formalwear Dressmaking Fabrics, our satin back crepe has a beautiful flow to it and has the added feature of being reversible; so whether your preference is shiny or matte when it comes to fabrics, you can use either side and be pleased with the results. We also recommend pairing this fabric with a sheer fabric such as a chiffon or organza. What is your favourite Dressmaking Fabric for formalwear? Have you used any of these to make a special occasion garment of your own? Let us know on our Facebook page - we love to hear back from our customers!
