There are so many different types and brands of scissors available on the market now, it can sometimes be a little confusing as to what brand or type of scissors to buy. Today I am going talk all about the range of scissors we offer here at Calico Laine and also the different brands.

Regular Dressmaking Scissors: These are the scissors that you will typically use from day to day and depending on what type and brand of scissors you buy these can also be resharpened. At Calico Laine we use two different brands of scissors for cutting our fabrics and over time we have found these to be our favourite. These scissors are the Fiskars and also the Prym scissors. Both offer excellent value for money and are perfect for cutting of dress fabrics.

Pinking Shears: Unlike regular dressmaking scissors, pinking shears cannot be resharpened so it is always advisable to buy the best pair of pinking shears that you can afford. At Calico Laine we have used the Fiskars pinking shears for years and always found them to be excellent quality. There are of course other brands, but my advice with these is always get the best pair you can afford.
