No matter what your skill level when it comes to sewing and dressmaking, we always seek to help out each and every one of our customers, both newcomers and regulars, to make their shopping experience with us a pleasant one. This also extends to our website as well, where a lot of our customers come to us via the internet looking to buy Haberdashery with us. In today's blog, we have put together a small checklist of Haberdashery items that we think are absolutely essential to anyone's sewing kit, all available to purchase both online and in store with us at great prices. Scissors – Arguably the most important Haberdashery item when it comes to sewing, it is incredibly important to use the correct kind of scissors for your project. We always recommend purchasing a pair of scissors made especially for cutting fabric and always advise that you should never be tempted to use a pair that were not created for this purpose. If you were to use a pair that were not made for dressmaking, you would not achieve a smooth cut and, if worse came to worst, you could end up damaging your fabric beyond repair. In both of our stores, our staff use dressmaking scissors from the Fiskars range to cut your fabric every day. These scissors come in both right- and left-handed varieties and are definitely worth the price tag. On the flip side, do not ever use your dressmaking scissors for other purposes such as cutting paper and plastic - this will end up damaging the blades by dulling them and can even put small nicks in them which are a dressmaker's worst nightmare! If you  already own scissors that maybe need a little bit of TLC before you are prepared to replace them, then we also sell scissor sharpers in both of our stores as well as online. Pin Cushion - Our most popular pin cushion among our customers is undeniably our Prym magnetic pin cushion. This fantastic Haberdashery item is a great way to keep track of your pins and making sure that they do not escape your sewing box while not in use. If this magnetic version is not your thing, we also stock other varieties such as some that strap to your arm and even around your hand for easy reach and use. This can prove very helpful when you are pinning your pattern pieces to your fabric and your sewing box is just out of your reach! Gutermann Sew-All Thread – This is a highly recommended brand and type of thread, favoured for its ability to sew through any fabric without fraying or shredding. Another bonus of this Haberdashery item is the fantastic colour range - no matter what shade your fabric may be, you are guaranteed to find its perfect match in the Gutermann Sew-All threads. Depending on the colour you choose, there is also a choice in the size of the reel you purchase; all colours are available in the smallest size which contains 100 metres, but some commonly used shades such as white and black are up for purchase in reels as big as 1000 metres. These larger reels are also more economical when it comes to the price as they work out cheaper when compared to the same amount purchased in small reels. Quick Un-Pick – Sometimes, our sewing just does not go the way we plan it to. Mistakes are easy to make and can be frustrating. However, fear not! This Haberdashery item is also commonly known as a stitch ripper or a seam ripper. It is made for taking apart stitches and seams easily without the use of scissors or other sharp objects. We do not recommend attempting this with sheer or thin fabrics, as they are prone to damage if not handled with delicate care.
