Dylon products are a popular Haberdashery purchase at Calico Laine and it really is no surprise why, when a simple dye or touch up with a whitener can breath new life into a tired looking wardrobe. Dylon products are not only for freshening old garments. They can also be used on new fabrics to create the desired colour of your choice or pattern. The best way to approach dying is to use a pre dye. This will lighten the fabric you wish to dye so it takes the new colour as best as it can. Each 600g pouch of pre dye shall work on up to 2.5kg of fabric. The easiest way is to use a dylon dye machine dye. For a strong colour these dyes are best used with 600g of fabrics. If you would like to obtain a lighter shade, 1.2kg of fabric is advised. Lighter shades can also be achieved on polyester/cotton and polyester/viscose mixes. This dye is not suitable with synthetic fibres, wool, silk and special finishes as they will not dye. The dylon dye machine dye is not always suitable for everybody and we offer the alternative dylon warm water dyes. The warm water dye shall dye up to 250g of fabric for a strong colour or with larger amounts of fabric for lighter shades. Both of these dyes are suitable for cotton, linen and viscose. Lighter shades can also be achieved on wool, solk, polyester/cotton and polyester/viscose mixes. This dye is not suitable with pure polyester, acrylic, nylon and fabric with special finishes as it will not dye them. We also stock these in our Haberdashery and it is recommended that a 500g bag of salt is used with every sachet of dye used.
