So we are all sad that the BBC television series The Great British Sewing Bee has already been and gone this year, but this only means we can now get excited for a new series to hit our screens in 2016. It seems that in more recent years sewing and dressmaking has started to get popular once more and I feel that this series has something to do with it. Well, here at Calico Laine we have all the fabric anybody could ever want if there fingers start twitching, as well as the huge variety of fabrics we also stock a massive selection of Haberdashery items. These products that we sell can obviously be used for dressmaking, but what I tend to use a lot of them for is crafting. I love to make extraordinary things that start from the simplest of things. With it coming up to only 11 short weeks to Christmas, I can proudly say I've bought and made all my presents, prepared I know, but the one present I made and still do not want to give away was the easiest thing I've ever made. A little time consuming maybe, but completely worth it. A safety pin bracelet. I walked into our Haberdashery section and chose what size safety pin I wanted, and then chose a little tub of our gutermann seed beads in the persons favourite colour (orange) and then the last thing I needed was enough of our clear jewellery elastic to thread through the safety pins so that when I was finished it would become a jazzy bracelet. Safety pin bracelets are as simple as they sound, and with these three Haberdashery items you can create a beautiful, unusual piece of jewellery that no one else will own. All you have to do, is open your safety pin, slide the beads on, close the pin and then thread the elastic through so it fits around a wrist. See, simple. If you decide to give it a go, why don't you post a picture to our Facebook page, or if you have any other suggestions feel free to share them as well!
