Now that the clocks have gone forward, we are truly into spring and next week is the beginning of most children's spring break from school which includes the easter bank holiday. The majority of school holidays at this time are over two weeks and this can be a long time to keep the children amused, especially if the weather is a bit dreary. A great way to entertain the kids is to do some easter themed Crafts to encourage their creativity and keep them busy. Colours that are usually associated with springtime and Easter are pastel shades including lilac, lemon, apple green and baby blue and it would be great to incorporate these colours into the Crafts you make with your children. For older children, you may like to create some cross stitch designs that can be used in aperture cards and given to friends and family as easter cards. Currently our Anchor threads in store are reduced to 25p each and binca and aida can be purchased in A4 sheets for as little as £1.79 which means that making cards can be great value for money while feeling special as they have been lovingly handmade. The front of the card can also be embellished with a little bit of satin ribbon or a 'Happy Easter' peel off to finish it off. Another idea to try with the older kids is creating an easter egg wreath which has been featured in an article on our Facebook page. If you like messy Crafts this one is for you! Using balloons that are partially blown up; take some embroidery thread and dip it in glue and then wind it round the ballon so that it creates a web effect. When this is dry, pop the balloon and you should be left with an easter egg shape. Make several of these in different colours and then tie them together in a round shape. Finish with a satin ribbon to tie it up and this can then be used for the front of your door. For the younger children, one of the most favoured Crafts at easter is painting eggs. These can be painted using acrylic paint to make pretty patterns. If the kids want to put faces on the eggs, you could glue on a pair of goggly eyes and wool can be used to create hair. Wool can also be used to create pom poms which can be glued onto painted pictures as rabbit tails or sheep in a springtime scene. Whatever Crafts you decide to do, make sure you have lots of fun!
