When it comes to any sewing project, we would be totally lost without the hundreds and hundreds of haberdashery products that we use over and over again. One of the most important types of haberdashery are fastenings, and one of the most common fasteners in the sewing world is the Zip. We have so many customers who Buy Zips from us every day of the week, and it is definitely one of the most popular items that we sell here at Calico Laine. At first glance, selecting the correct kind of Zip for your project can be a little overwhelming - there are so many different types to choose from and to the novice sewing enthusiast, knowing what each and every kind does and is suitable for can be a lot to take in at first. There are a couple of things that are useful to have in mind before you come to Buy Zips from us here at Calico Laine; first is the size that you require. Zips are actually measured by the length of the teeth, not the length of the tape that they sit on. They are also available in increments of even numbers (across our huge Zip range, we have zips from a very short 4" all the way up to a massive 120" depending on what kind you are buying!). |f you are having trouble finding a zip that is the correct size for your project, you can actually Buy Zips in a longer size and cut them down to your required length after securing the ends. The other thing that is important to know is whether your project requires an open end zip or a closed end zip. Open end zips separate completely into two pieces and are used for garments such as jackets and coats. We stock several different kinds of open end zips including metal, plastic and nylon. As for closed end zips, after being unzipped these stay in one piece at the bottom. These are found in skirts, dresses and trousers, as well as bags and pockets that close with a zip. Do you have any tips of your own when it comes to incorporating Zips into your sewing projects? Leave a comment on our Facebook page - we love to hear back from our customers!
