As it gets colder and colder towards Christmas and the end of the year, we are getting a lot of customers asking what fabrics we stock that would be suitable for making coats, shirts and other items of clothing to keep themselves and others warm over the winter. In today's blog post, we will be talking about several fabrics we have available that we would recommend for clothing that beats the chilly weather and keeps you nice and cosy.
- Winter Fabrics - A fairly obvious start, but this category, available to look at on our website, contains a number of heavyweight fabrics that are guaranteed to keep you warm. From woollen fabrics such as our Quebec selection to the heavyweight Melton, these fabrics would be perfect for making lined coats, and others such as the Elgin fabrics that we stock would be great for pretty winter dresses.
- Fleece - Our fleeces are available in a multitude of different colours and prints, and we also regularly receive new types of fleece; for example, our latest fleeces are double-sided fleeces, perfect for things like reversible jackets and gilets. All of our fleeces are also fantastic for making blankets to snuggle under as well.
- Faux Fur - Our long pile faux fur fabrics are great to use for blankets (we recommend lining them with with fleece or dress lining for extra comfort), and they are also good to use for lining the hoods of coats, as well as collars and cuffs. Our faux furs are available in many different colours and patterns.
- Melton - With the same texture and thickness as boiled wool, our melton fabrics are wonderful to work with and look stunning when made up into a finished garment. They are perfect to use for winter coats and are guaranteed to keep you warm this winter.
- Tartan - A popular choice amongst many of our customers for winter garments, we stock tartan in a range of different colour combinations. These fabrics are great for use as skirts and dresses, and some of our customers choose to make throws and blankets with them after lining them with fleece or dress lining.
- Brushed Cotton - Our brushed cotton fabrics are available in a large range of different check patterns, as well as a number of other designs such as tiny polka dots and brightly printed flowers. These fabrics are incredibly soft to the touch and are wonderful to use for anything from everyday winter shirts to pyjamas and even dresses and skirts. They also have a strong finish, despite being soft on skin, and will withstand washing again and again, making them incredibly useful fabrics to wear during the cold weather.
- Corduroy - Available in three different types (8 Whale Pin, 16 Whale Pin and 20 Whale Pin), corduroy is a strong and durable fabric that we recommend for making jackets, skirts and trousers. We have our corduroy in many different colour choices, and only stock the highest quality so that our customers are completely satisfied.
