As wedding season draws to a close, so too does our series of articles detailing our most popular and best selling Wedding Fabrics. For this final instalment, we look to one of the most widely used bridal fabrics on the market. This little gem is used in almost every kind of wedding celebration for everything from venue dressing to the gown itself and is something of an unsung hero when it comes to constructing show stopping bridal gowns. Organza is a thin, almost transparent fabric with a plain weave. Mostly manufactured from polyester, organza is a beautiful fabric which is made to mimic the look and texture of pure, luxurious silk. Organza is not always the first choice of Wedding Fabric for creating a dream wedding dress and is often overlooked in favour of more traditional dress fabrics such as satin or lace. However, organza is present on many of the most famous and stylish bridal gowns without even being the featured fabric itself. Organza is often used under layers and layers of other bridal fabrics to create added volume and structure for a fairytale princess style gown. Princess Diana wore what is possibly the most celebrated wedding dress of all time when she married Prince Charles at Westminster Abbey back in 1981 and what most onlookers may not have realised at the time, is that underneath the yards of extravagant silk taffeta fabric and intricate stitch work was a type of organza fabric which worked together to give Diana's fabulous gown the structure and size for which it has become so recognised. Many modern brides are looking towards this soft, delicate fabric to create one of a kind bridal gowns including some of the biggest stars of stage and screen. Organza is the perfect choice of material for adding intricate, decorative features to a gown. Dress designer to the stars, Vera Wang, gave a masterclass in this technique when she designed three stunning bridal gowns for reality TV star Kim Kardashian's wedding to Kris Humphries back in 2011. Kim chose a stunning mermaid inspired gown by Vera Wang featuring a huge fishtail skirt with hand cut organza petals as her "second" gown and it was this gown which Kim claims was her favourite of the day. Fellow reality star, Heidi Montag also chose an organza dress when she married The Hills co-star, Spencer Pratt. Designed by Monique Lhullier, Heidi's stunning gown was constructed from a silk organza material and featured a drop waist and peacock feather design. This is the perfect choice of gown for brides who wish to achieve the classic Cinderella-style gown with a modern twist. Paired with a tiered veil and her golden hair styled in soft, romantic waves, Heidi was every inch the classy and elegant Hollywood bride. Although organza is not always the first choice of fabric for many, it is still the perfect choice for creating fabulous, feminine designs. Due to the stunning drape and movement of this wonderful material, organza is an excellent choice for venue dressing and is often found featuring on table dressing, centre pieces and special touches such as pew end decorations. Organza looks particularly effective as a table runner or can be tied around chairs or cathedral style candles for a simple and effective centre piece. Organza is a simple but extremely effective material to work with and is ideal for the novice crafter meaning that you do not have to break the bank by hiring an expensive, professional venue dresser but you can create your own fabulous organza decorations and add your own special touch on your big day.
