In todays blog I'm going to talk about Chiffon Fabric. At Calico Laine Chiffon Fabric is one of our best selling fabrics and for a good reason.  Chiffon is a very versatile fabric that has many many uses in the world of dressmaking and fashion,  as can be seen by it's popularity in the high street. Used as both a layering fabric over other fabrics such as satin or a fabric in its own right, a multitude of designs can be created with Chiffon Fabric. Chiffon, taken from the French word for a rag, is a sheer lightweight fabric with a plain weave. It has a twist to its yarns which gives it a slightly rough feel. Due to its lightweight nature it can fray when cut however simple hemming can stop any fraying from occurring. Produced in Japan and made from 100% polyester, our Chiffon Fabric is of high quality while still being a good value purchase at just £3.79 per metre. Here at Calico Laine we have recently extended our range of Chiffon Fabric and with a choice of over 25 colours you will not be short of colour options. Our new range compliments our new collection of Satin Back Crepe Fabric which is ideal if you are looking to make bridesmaids dresses or a special occasions outfit. Chiffon is most commonly used as an overlay fabric which can create a elegant and floating appearance to a dress. With its smooth and lustrious finish, Chiffon is also ideal for blouses, scarves and lingerie. Not only is Chiffon Fabric used in dressmaking but it is also suitable for window dressing adding that extra element to your window display. The fluidity of Chiffon makes it perfect for window scarves and swags as it will drape beautifully. Simply hem the sides and wrap the chiffon around your curtain pole to create a stunning effect. The same can be done on bed posts to add a bit of glamour to your bedroom. Due to its delicate nature, Chiffon Fabric ideally needs to be handwashed however it can be machine washed on a delicate cycle with cold water. I hope you have enjoyed reading this blog on Chiffon Fabric. If you have any tips of suggestions on how to use Chiffon please leave a comment or join us on Facebook or Twitter to start a discussion.
