Sometimes when choosing fabric for our next dressmaking project, we are spoilt for choice and it can be difficult to select the right material when presented with a number of different options. In today's blog post, we'll be talking about some of the different types of Jersey Fabrics we have available here at Calico Laine, and hopefully help you in making the right choice for your own sewing ideas. [caption id="attachment_5765" align="alignright" width="150"]Bamboo Dressmaking Jersey Fabrics Bamboo Jersey at Calico Laine is a dressmaking weight cloth.[/caption] Bamboo Jersey - Our newest addition to our range of jersey fabrics, our bamboo jersey has a lovely, soft texture and is wonderful to work with. It is a 4-way stretch fabric and, although it has a heavy feel to it, it drapes beautifully and would be perfect to use for shirts, figure-hugging dresses and skirts. We currently have it available in six different colours, including some neutral shades and a couple of bold colours as well. Cotton Jersey - Perhaps the most common type of jersey that the average person will come across, our cotton jerseys come in a wide range of bright colours that will suit anyone's tastes. Cotton jersey is great to use for T-shirts, and for the more creative dressmakers out there, it is easy to dye and use fabric paints/pens on. Viscose Jersey - Our widest jersey is our viscose jersey, which is available in a number of different colours - several of which compliment the colours that we stock in our cotton jerseys. Viscose jersey is lightweight and drapes very well. It is a winter weight fabric and is fantastic to work with; it is fantastic to use for dresses to wear over winter, or even something to wear to a formal event. We stock a lot of colours in this fabric, and it is popular all year round. Lycra - Although not a jersey fabric, our lycra is the best fabric to use for activewear - whether it's a dance costume or a new set of exercise clothing that you are planning on making, we definitely recommend our lycra. It is available in a number of colours to suit anyone, from bright and bold colours like yellow, pink and green to more neutral shades such as white and cream. Have you ever used any of these fabrics in your own dressmaking projects? Take a photograph and upload it to our Facebook page - we always like to see what our customers create with our fabrics. I hope you have enjoyed my entry today and as always if you have any thoughts or comments please do leave a comment below, Until next time, Calico Laine
