Over the past few years Corduroy Fabric has made a real revival back on to the fashion scene. This is something I am personally very pleased about.  Corduroy has a real multitiude of uses in everyday life, making it a very popular and robust fabric. Our range of Corduroy Fabric that we stock here at Calico Laine is a dressmaking or clothes making weight, it is not intended for upholstery purposes. In the past we have sold our corduroy to make in jackets, bags, trousers and skirts. We offer two different weights in our corduroy. The first is whats known as an 8 wale cord. This is a heavier fabric and has a more prominent cord design. The second corduroy we have is known as a pin whale cord. This is a lighter fabric that has a smoother finish to it. This particualr cord is my favourite and really stands out as an excellent quality fabric. When Corduroy is made it is made by twisitng fibres that when woven sit next to each other to give the ''cord'' appearance.  This is the reason why our range of corduroy fabrics are ideal for jackets, coats, bags and even shirts. They are a durable fabric, meaning they will have many years of use once made into a garment. If you are using a pattern to make your creation then there are a few things to remember if using corduroy fabric. Corduroy Fabric has a knap to it, meaning that if you are following a patternt then all your pattern pieces need to''go the same way''. The thing to remember here is that you may need more fabric than you originally thought. If you are in any difficulty with this or need any advice then please do conatc us were one of our team will be happy to assist.
