Well it's getting to that time of year again, the nights are slowly getting lighter and spring is in the air. The thought of summer fills me with delight, I can't wait to get started on some summer sewing projects. Having just booked my family summer holiday I can't wait to get started and as always choosing my Dress Fabric is my favourite part. Here at Calico Laine we stock Butterick, McCall and Vogue patterns, all of which have a fabulous selection regardless of your ability. Personally I like nice simple patterns which I can make in one evening. Perhaps I'm a lazy sewer but I like to see progress quickly. Once you've picked a pattern it's essential you choose the correct Dress Fabric for your pattern. I have a few patterns which I've had for years, they're an easy style and reliable fit making it ideal for summer holidays. I think holiday creations need to be easy to wear in the heat, pack neatly and of cause look amazing. My favourite summer Dress Fabric has got to be the Rose and Hubble cotton prints. They're stylish, versatile and easy to work with. I've made my husbands shirts, my sons shorts and many items for myself including beach bags and dresses. Another linen I particularly like is the blades linen, I've used a lot of this in recent years for summer projects. Its a great quality linen and the colour range is very impressive. Linen is ideal in hot climates and this range is ideal for skirts, trousers and shirts to name a few. The mirofibre is probably not a traditional summer Dress Fabric but I like this for holidays because it packs brilliantly. I always make myself one or two dresses for the evening and I can always rely on the microfiber not to crease and to always look special. Even the most simple designs always look so classy in microfiber.
