If you were watching the Golden Globes over the weekend, you might be feeling inspired to start sewing yourself a new dress - and if you're hoping to make that beautiful evening gown that you've always wanted, then first you'll want to choose what kind of dressmaking fabric you want to use. In today's post, we'll be talking about a few different dressmaking fabrics that would be perfect for use in this kind of sewing project. Duchess Satin - Our heaviest and finest quality satin, our duchess satin comes in a wide range of beautiful colours to choose from and looks stunning when made up. It is perfect for use in anything from evening gowns and prom frocks to bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses. Our duchess satin measures 150cm wide and is £8.99 per metre, and is wonderful dressmaking fabric. It has a lovely matte finish to it and is soft against skin when being worn. If you need to make your dress quicky, then microfibre is a great choice of dressmaking fabric as it does not fray when cut and does not need to be lined. Our microfibre is 150cm wide and is £5.99 a metre. Cotton Spandex Plain - This dressmaking fabric has a slight stretch to it, as the name suggests, and is incredibly easy to work with when sewing. It is great to use for those daring, body-hugging dresses, and it has a slight sheen to it, giving it the appearance of a fabric other than cotton. Our cotton spandex plain is 150cm wide and is £7.99 a metre. Chiffon - If you're after a floaty dressmaking fabric, then chiffon is what we recommend. We have several different types of chiffon, from regular and extra wide to cationic and crinkled yoryu, or if you're after something a little bit heavier, we also stock georgette. All of these dressmaking fabrics are beautiful when made up, and the width and colours available vary from type to type of chiffon. If you're still not sure what dressmaking fabrics you want to use in your own sewing project, why not order a fabric sample? We offer samples of nearly all of our fabrics for £1.00 each - or contact our sales team for more information on a certain fabric by phone or by email. Thanks for reading today, Calico Laine
