Jersey Fabrics have been a mainstay of dressmaking for many years and this tradition shows no sign of ever slowing down. Jersey materials really have been popular over the years and with good reason. One of the main reasons they are so popular is how versatile the fabric is. You can use it for a whole host of different uses within dressmaking, from T-Shirts through to going out dresses. Jersey Fabrics also have an illustrious history with the fashion industry. Back when Jersey Fabric when was being used mainly as an underwear fabric the famous designer Channel used it back in 1916, creating something of any outcry! Just as well times have changed as jersey truly is a beautiful fabric to work with when dressmaking. As it's name would suggest Jersey Fabrics did originate from the small island it is named after. There are a variety of different jersey materials available in different weights and fabric compositions. Below I will list some of the jersey's we sell here and try to describe them in a little more detail:
  1. Double Knit Jersey: A personal favourite of mine, this material is simply stunning. It is a heavy weight fabric available in both solid colours and also in a marble effect. It is a pleasure to wear and washes amazingly well. Perfect width for dressmakers as well at 150cm wide.
  2. Lycra Jersey: An amazing fabric that hangs and drapes extremely well. We have sold so much of this we have recently expanded the colour range. This is also 150cm wide.
  3. Cotton Jersey:  This particular jersey fabric we have sold for over 30 years. It is a t-shirt weight fabric that is fairly light weight. It comes in a whole host of different colours.
