If you are a regular dressmaker or a keen sewer like me then you are bound to have favourite items that you like working with. In my entry today for Calico Laine I am going to talk through some of my favourite items! Dressmaking Scissors: I have to hide my scissors in my house and in the past people have been caught using them for cutting cards, opening boxes etc etc and this drives me mad! My best dressmaking scissors are my Fiskars. These I have had for many many years and they have served me so well. I think one of the min reasons for this is that I do look after them and only us them for dressmaking. I also regularly sharpen them as well with the Fiskars scissor sharpener. My advice with zips is just to keep a small selection of the most popular types such as black 7 or 8 inch dress zips. These always come in handy and take up very little space! Interfacing: These can be quite a confusing item and I understand why. There really is so much choice available and at the same time not always a lot of information! Often if you are following a pattern they just advise to use a sew in or iron on interfacing without really giving anymore information. A lot really depends on the fabric you are using and also the design of your pattern. It brightens up my room, but on a more related topic it also comes in really handy as well. There really are so many different types of thread available but I always tend to use the Gutermann range. They have been around for many years and I always find the colour range excellent. I have only covered a handful of my favourite items today as I'm limited to space (just like my sewing room lol).
