Over the last couple of years we have seen a sharp rise in the demand for craft, sewing and haberdashery items and over the last year our haberdashery department have been particularly busy. It is reported that sales of haberdashery rose by 24% in 2012-2013, one of the biggest rises in recent years is accredited to the popularity of programmes such as The Great British Sewing Bee which has helped to make sewing and crafting fashionable again. Whilst the economy has been at an all time low, this has in many ways been good news for those trading in dressmaking and haberdashery, as the demand for home made and up-cycled clothes continues to rise. Many customers have found that they can no longer afford to simply throw out an item of clothing which may have seen better days or no longer fits, so have turned to creating their own, one of a kind clothing items. Whilst maintaining our regular customer base, we have noted a rise in the younger demographic taking an interest in sewing and crafts with the major trend leaning towards customising existing items in their wardrobe. Here are just a few ways that you can use our haberdashery items to make the most of your existing clothing items and fabrics: Jeans - denim jeans are not only a staple item of almost every wardrobe, once they have reached the end of their life their denim fabric is also a very versatile item. Of course, jeans can last many years and there is no need to throw them out simply because of a broken zip. Our haberdashery department carries a wide range of replacement jeans zips. With their strong gold metal teeth, these zips are perfect for extending the life of your jeans and other clothing items. Once your jeans really have reached the end of their life, their denim fabric can be used to create a myriad of other useful items including purses. Use other items of haberdashery including bag handles to create a fashionable denim handbag and decorate with zips and buttons for a truly unique item. Our haberdashery department carry a range of gorgeous lace and trim which look very effective on your home furnishings and can transform your tired old cushions or bed linen. Quilts - stitch together old football shirts or sports t-shirts to make an individual quilt for a sports themed bedroom to delight the boys and girls in your family. The same can be done using your child's old baby clothes which makes a wonderful keep sake to be treasured when your baby has outgrown their very first outfits. Buttons - our haberdashery department carry a massive collection of buttons in all shapes, sizes and designs. Buttons are always one of the most popular and versatile items of haberdashery and many of our customers will purchase buttons simply for the joy of having them and will build up a collection over many years to be dipped into every now and again when the project calls for it. Buttons can be used for almost any project but we find that they are particularly great for jewellery making. Making jewellery is a great way to get your children interested in crafts and a button bracelet is one of the most simple items you can make. Choose our 2.5mm Round Elastic and thread with buttons in different shapes and colours for a lovely bracelet which is simple and safe enough for little girls to make all by themselves due to the absence of glue and scissors. Your little ones will love making these gorgeous designs to pass out to their classmates as a special cost effective gift for the many birthday parties they will attend during the school year. Haberdashery items are extremely useful and versatile in every day life and our haberdashery department is always one of our busiest all year round.
