May is one of my favourite months of the year as it means that we get two long weekends; with a bank holiday at the start of the month and another one at the end of the month. Unfortunately, this year, we have not had much luck with the weather and the early May bank holiday was a bit of a wash out. By the looks of it, this bank holiday is not going to be much better. That means that it is time to go to your local UK Craft Supplier and get some Craft Supplies to keep you entertained while you are stuck indoors, away from the wet weather. This is especially important if you have children at home to entertain over the weekend and even as we go into the half term next week. Here are just a few ideas of Crafts to do with your kids. Cross Stitch and Tapestry : Some parents may be happy for their children to create a bit of mess when they are crafting however if you are wanting to keep mess to a minimum, cross stitch is a great craft to teach the kids. For the younger kids, you may want to buy some plastic canvas from your UK Craft Supplier as this is easier for them to work with due to the fact that the holes are much bigger than on a traditional Aida fabric. They can create patterns and pictures using wool, tapestry wool or traditional embroidery threads. These can then be mounted on the wall, used to create coasters, or on the front of greetings cards. For older children, we have recently added a range of children's tapestry kits which will be challenging but fun to create. Dylon Dyes and Paints : If you do want to create a bit of a mess (and isn't that half the fun of having kids!) you could try decorating some canvas bags or plain t-shirts by doing a bit of tie dye or using dylon paints to create pictures and patterns on plain fabric. At Calico Laine, a trusted UK Craft Supplier, we sell a great range of dylon dyes and fabric paints that can be used for this type of craft. After your initial dyeing and painting the kids can then embellish their t-shirts or bags with ribbons or trims as well as sewing on buttons and sequins. Card Making : With Father's Day coming up in the next few weeks it might be a nice idea to get the kids to make a homemade card for the day. Individual pieces of card can be bought in both our Liscard and Neston branches to make the backing of the card and to decorate the front of the card we sell acrylic paints, decoupage sheets, ribbons, trim and buttons. This gives children the chance to use their imagination and will really please Dad on his special day when he has a unique card. Hopefully this has given you a few ideas on how to stay creative and entertained over the long weekend. We would love to see some of your creations on our Facebook page so feel free to post pictures when you have finished your projects!
