One of our best selling Haberdashery items is our range of zips however we find that many people are unsure of what type of zip they need for their purpose. Zips generally come in two types, Open End and Closed End. To help you decide what is best for your project I will explain the difference between the two. Open End Zips: These zips are ones that open fully so that the two sides of the zip separate from each other. For example, these may be used on a jacket or cardigan so you can open it all the way. These come in different styles for example Plastic Open End, Nylon Open End, Metal Open End and Heavy Duty Open End. Different styles of open end zip can be used on your garment depending on heavy your fabric is. For example, if you have a motorbike jacket you may wish to use a Heavy Duty Metal Open End Zip whereas a thinner cardigan may only need a lightweight Nylon Open End Zip. Closed End Zips: These zips are ones that have a stopper on the end to stop the zip pull opening fully. For example these may be used on a dress where you only need a partial opening. Again, we sell these in a few different styles including Dress Zips, Concealed Zips, Nickel Trouser Zips and Jeans Zips. One of the most popular of our closed end zips are our Economy Cushion Zips. These come in a neutral, beige colour and range from 12 inches long to 22 inches long. In packs of 100 zips these are excellent value for money and are ideal for furnishing projects. I hope this blog has helped clarify the difference between the main two types of zips available and will help you in your haberdashery selection.
