Here at Calico Laine, a Fabric Store based on the Wirral we understand that dressmaking can over time become an expensive hobby and many customers are aware of price when they are choosing fabrics and materials. It is important however, that those customers who may be working to a strict budget should still have be able to access to large selection of good quality dressmaking fabrics. At both our Neston and Liscard Fabric Stores we offer a range of different priced fabrics and for those keeping an eye on price that we have a range of economy fabrics that are still great to sew with. These dressmaking materials are all economically priced but are not low quality which means that even if you are working to a budget you can still create some beautiful outfits. Cationic Chiffon -  This lightweight chiffon is one of the most popular fabrics in our economy fabrics range and in fact, in the whole Fabric Store. Ideal for evening gowns, prom dresses and bridal outfits this material is available in a large choice of colours with many in a beautiful two-tone effect. Cationic Chiffon is the ideal choice to rival more high end, expensive fabrics such as silk and is also ideal for creating stunning accessories such as scarves and decorative belts. Regular Bi-Stretch - We have recently added an economy version of bi stretch to both our Fabric Stores. It is popular for a variety of dressmaking projects and is great for making medium weight skirts and trousers. With a slight stretch on the bias of the fabric, bi-stretch is extremely comfortable to wear and requires little maintenance making it a desirable cost-effective fabric. It is especially good for making work wear as it is durable and does not crease easily. Organza - Organza is a great low cost fabric for formal wear including wedding dresses, evening wear and ball gowns. It can be used to add volume to skirts or as an overlay on other fabrics to create texture. Organza does not flow as well chiffon but is better for garments that require a bit more structure to their design. This fabric is also great for low cost decorations for a wedding and can be used for making table runners and chair bows. Polycotton -  This fabric is ideal for making children's garments and lightweight clothing such as blouses for the warmer weather. Polycotton is great to work with as it is easy to cut and sew and comes in a large selection of colours including both bright primary colours and paler pastel shades. This fabric has been one of best selling textiles in our Fabric Store for over 30 years! Economy satin - Many customers use satin as a cost effective alternative to silk and economy satin is great for this as it drapes well and is lightweight like silk. This fabric can be used for creating lingerie, blouses and nightwear as well as evening wear dresses and bridesmaid dresses at the fraction of the cost of silk. Economy satin has a high shine to it which catches the light well and will give your garment a lustrous quality.
