The good weather is just around the corner. We’ve all had enough of our big sweatshirts and jumpers now. Surely, it’s about time we start to put them away, and dig out the Spring/Summer clothes. Here at Calico Laine we’ve got plenty of lovely, high quality dressmaking fabric that will help to inspire and create your new season wardrobe.

Broderie Anglaise Fabric

Broderie Anglaise dressmaking fabric has always been a firm favourite of mine and I am so happy that it is back for 2020. It is 100% cotton meaning it is perfect for the warmer weather, but due to its slightly heavier qualities, it suits our milder British summers. Our range includes a few different styles, in beige, cream and of course white. White is a classic, fresh colour for Spring and has been frequenting runways in recent fashion weeks. It is a versatile dress fabric that you can use to create a range of different styles. My choice would be a smock dress with frilled capped sleeves. You may choose to go for a strappy summer dress, or maybe a more ethereal looking midi with sleeves.

Denim Fabric

Another great way to freshen up your wardrobe is to introduce some new season denim. A denim dress is a great staple piece as it can see you right throughout the year. However, I just love a structured strappy denim number for the summer. The ideal fabric for this would be our 10oz Stretch Denim as the combination of cotton and spandex allows for extra comfort. If you fancy different weights of denim, we have plenty to choose from, in different shades. For a lightweight fabric, go for the Cotton Denim Chambray or the 4oz Dark Wash. These make beautiful dresses and shirts that will keep you cool whilst looking cool. As we know though, the Great British summer is not always predictable, so we always need to keep a trusty pair of jeans to hand. This is where our 10oz and 14oz denims come in. Head to our website to see the full range. So that’s the key pieces of your new season collection covered. The great thing about both Broderie Anglaise and Denim fabrics is that they are so versatile. You can accessorise with shoes, bags, jewellery and jackets to change up your looks. The possibilities are endless.
