I'm going to go into a little more detail about the selection of Dressmaking Fabrics that we sell here at Calico Laine and what sort of fabrics can be used for what sort of dresses.

Chiffon Fabrics: this sheer fabric is an excellent choice for summer dresses as it is a lightweight fabric that can used on it's own or as a layering fabric with a heavier weight fabric such as Satin. We stock a variety of Cationic Chiffon Fabrics and High Quality Crepe Chiffon Fabrics.

Double Knit Jersey Fabric: A heavy Jersey Fabric, this fabric is perfect for when the weather takes a turn for the worse. It has a slight stretch to it and is perfect for skirts or even full length dresses. This fabric is available in a variety of different colours and composed of 76% polyester, 19% viscose and 5% spandex.

Gingham Fabrics: These fabrics have been around for many many years but they are a staple of anyones wardrobe. At Calico Laine we stock a wide choice of different gingham fabrics including 100% cotton and poly-cotton versions. This material is perfect for Summer dresses and lightweight shirts.

Satin Fabrics: One of the main sections for dressmaking and one of the most popular on our website would have to be satin fabrics, this is an absolute must for any keen dressmakers. At Calico Laine we offer a number of different options including Duchess Satin Fabric, Satin Back Dupion Fabric and Satin Back Crepe Fabric to name a few.
